Artificial Intelligence (Ai) the NOW big thing?

Article originally published in The Lunch Mag, Issue 5, March 2025.

Who’s driving your business is it you or what Ai knows about you?

I have had many who are confused and upset about Ai “taking their jobs” reach out to me as a fellow writer to discuss what it might mean for their future in this industry.  Whilst there is no way I’d ever consider myself an expert I have been using and finding out as much as I can about this new “thing” since 2017.  Reading and following experts in this space has helped with how I now feel about Ai.  What we need to do is to figure out how best it will serve us.

Ai is here to stay, fear not, I don’t see it replacing every writer, artist, etc.  Why – because it can’t replace human feelings, that emotional connection unique to humans.  I don’t believe in my lifetime that I will see a robot genuinely cry at something sad or laugh out loud of its own accord without human interaction.

We do need to be mindful and treat Ai as your new best friend who is smart, prone to not always being right and a little gossipy – what do I mean by this…..   Ai is only as smart as what is put into it and it’s not always right – so fact check.  What about gossiping – well never put any Intellectual Proprietary that you wouldn’t want shared or duplicated.

There are many benefits to Ai improving your written communicated approaches, dissecting large documents, developing written resources, content, reading books, providing briefing notes from Zoom, even with Gemini 2.0 a YouTube video content can be analysed grabbing key information easily without watching hours. One of the best uses is that you can train Ai to be part of your marketing team.  Yes, you can train it to be a voice for your brand.  How good is that?  Though not all results are ideal, and the use of Ai needs to be in your voice – train it well.

Things that I am more mindful of now is what I allow to be shared and what information I want to see as a result.

I’m very conscious as to how easily a simple photo can be manipulated by typing what I want it to say, in some ways you might say people in a photo are also at risk.  I’ve used this for some of my content and few picked up it was Ai – probably because the language interface is a little stilted but believe me this will improve.  Over the last 7 years I have seen huge leaps and bounds, and improvements are becoming faster.  Once you could pick a fake but now it’s much harder and you must look deeper.  A few years ago, I shared a video of my pool – I made it look like it was green, and a platypus was swimming in it. I asked what I should use to clean the pool, and my social media blew up with everyone saying I needed to get help for the platypus, thing is it was Ai.  It was that good the platypus had a shadow which followed it making it more believable.

Can you guess which of these photos below were used to create the other with Ai?

There is so much for and against the use of Ai which is growing and changing every day.

We can put our head in the sand, but no matter what you do you will be using it whether you know it or not.  Have you used pre-emptive texting or had a streaming service suggest movies for you?  That’s Ai in action.  We talk about algorithms on digital marketing and again that’s Ai.  It’s not always perfect or preferred, but we can work them to our advantage – remember input in equals input out.

Just like the 4 Industrial Revolutions and the use of personal computers this is a new normal and something we all need to embrace even if we don’t want to …. It’s here to stay.
